What size and resolution should a Mac wallpaper be?
The best Mac wallpaper matches your display’s aspect ratio and has at least enough source pixels for the panel. Do not size it only from the scaled resolution shown for text and interface space. Keep important details away from the edges, because macOS may crop the image to fill the desktop.

Aspect ratio decides the composition before resolution decides sharpness
