Who writes these guides
Mac+ is a one-person operation. The same developer writes the code and the guides on this site, which is the only reason the troubleshooting pages go into as much detail as they do.
The short version
I'm Adrien Pennetier. I build Mac+, a native macOS app for animated desktop wallpapers, desktop widgets and custom folder icons. It's published by PENRA, an independent software studio registered in France (SIREN 989 816 947).
Mac+ is a native app, and its wallpaper scenes are rendered on the GPU rather than played back as video files. Building that meant spending a lot of time in the parts of macOS that are poorly documented: how Finder stores a custom folder icon, why that icon silently fails to apply, what the wallpaper subsystem does on a reboot, how it behaves when you unplug a second display. Those are the same questions people search for, so I write them up.
How the guides are made
- Everything is checked on a real Mac. Steps, keyboard shortcuts and menu paths are followed on the macOS version named at the top of the page — not copied from another article.
- Version numbers are stated, not implied. macOS changes these behaviours between releases. A fix that worked on Sonoma often doesn't on Tahoe, so each page says what it was tested on.
- Sources are linked, including the awkward ones. When the real answer is buried in an Apple Community thread or is a bug Apple hasn't fixed, the guides link to that thread and say so.
- Native first. Where macOS can already do the job, the guides say to use macOS. Several pages here explicitly recommend Apple's built-in Customize Folder panel or the built-in screen-saver wallpaper over installing anything — including over Mac+.
- Corrections are made in place. The "Updated" date on a guide changes when its content changes.
Mac+ is a paid app and I'm the one selling it, so treat any mention of it as an interested one. The guides are written so the manual method works completely on its own, without the app. Where Mac+ genuinely does something macOS can't — styling many folders at once, re-applying icons after an update clears them, per-display animated wallpapers — it's named as an option at the end, not in place of the instructions.
What you can verify yourself
Trust in a guide should be checkable, not asserted. Everything below can be confirmed without taking my word for it:
- The publisher is a registered company. PENRA, France, SIREN 989 816 947 — searchable in the public French business register.
- The app is signed and notarized by Apple. Run

lipo -archsreturnsx86_64 arm64— it runs natively on Intel Macs as well as Apple Silicon, which several competing apps no longer do. - The factual sheet is public and machine-readable. llms-full.txt holds the canonical description, pricing and requirements. If a guide on this site contradicts it, one of the two is wrong — tell me which.
The same applies to the guides: every page states the macOS version it was tested on, and links its sources, including the awkward ones.
